To Adapt vs Being adapted

In episode #5, which is power, musician Damon Krukowski give me a new idea that the difference between buying a record in store or purchase music online. I was curious why there is still record store on the street, this is the era of technology, why don’t everyone just go online to listen to music. Krukowski state that go to record store is hunting music, people discover music that they don’t know what they want to discover, then they get a surprise, but when we are online, we are suggested by the internet, and we are adapted to music on the internet, we are getting something that we already feel comfortable with, which never help us to find more type of music that can surprise us. When people go online to find music, we only get music those are spread out commercially, so we lost the fun of hunting, we lost the feeling of surprise. In my second paper, I will discuss this topic more deeply.

Space Changed By Technology

In my essay I will be writing about episode 2. This episode grabs most of my attention. This episode also creates a lot of discussion on how we start to create our own private spaces throughout the use of headphones to avoid social contact with one another.

Showing two ways of timing.

In my 2nd paper I would like to choose ways of hearing episode 1 “ Time” representing analog to Digital sound and technology. Analog mostly used in earlier generation people still use but as per today generation coz of advanced technology digital has been rapidly expanding  . Analog signal is stable signal which shows physical measurement where as in Digital is discrete time.

Free music

Music is like sound which goes inside our ear naturally and we can stop it. In the same way, music is something that we can’t stop it but why it is stop by the tag of money. I chose Episode 4 “Money” for my paper. I chose this episode because in the 20th century, music was like an object which can be bought and sold but people were less likely to buy as it was expensive. As time passes, it change their roots and reveal its new term of exchange. In my paper, I will write about music should be available free to anyone who is hearing and how free music can make people popular. in addition, how artist will make money.

one image in specific that has spoken to me with no text or audio but with the photograph it captured is one about the amazon rain forest (posted in link above)and a road dividing the remaining forest and on the other side of the road we have huge plot of land with no trees or grass or plants or any sign of life, just traces of typical careless human doings to the earth, all for self interests, all for money, all for power, all for greed. wherever i am, if i see that image it speaks hard to me, it brings many emotions to me, especially because it is the land of my people, my ancestors and it is being destroyed for negotiations, for business, for some cash in big companies wallets. this definitely is something about what Berger talks about, he speaks about how you can see so much more to one single picture you can see the story and make so much of one image, and also he speaks about being able to view it firsthand and through for example on a phone and it can be different experiences and i agree, the image i saw shocks me, but perhaps actually being in the scene of the photograph might ignite a different experience and thought/emotions.

In episode 2 we see a lot of images portraying women in a sort of sexual vulnerable objectifying type of way, making them seem as if they were weak and like only they were to be seen and portrayed in this manner, where as today images like this today have and would create a whole controversy and the painter would be defamed for discriminating against women this has to do with the mitu movement and the complete change of times that we are in, where today women play a big role in society and everywhere else not like in the older ages where those images were created, the LGBTQ community as well plays a big role in today society and with the #metoo movement this is an example of how women and the lgbtq have significantly grown and risen and have a voice since the times of these images and how they matter and make a change for their communities and show resilience and strength, of course everyone has their own opinions and some still have and will keep that old mindset and view on women and the lgbtq but for the most part the world is more accepting and sees this as a normal thing that women stick up and lgbtq community sticks ups as well and not be seen as less and not treated like in the past history books we see they once were.

Sounds Through an Ear Canal is Free, Experience is Not

Although music is something that flows through our ears quite naturally and is free, the way in which we want to experience that sound may not be. A platform like YouTube is free for everyone, and we can share sounds and music that way, bit having a deluxe album on your iTunes is not. Going to a Billie Eilish concert is not. Having a limited addition record in your bedroom is not. The music itself cannot be bought, but the vessel it comes in can, and for good reason. In my paper, I will be discussing why free music and paid music experience is distinguished rightfully so, and how whilst paid music sharing platforms and experience are necessary, free music files are as well.

No Headphones, No Travel

Since the time that I got my first real iPod, I never leave the house without it. I feel like I’m going nuts without my headphones in while I’m traveling in the city, particularly when I’m going on the subway. The characteristic sounds of the city that really defining the fast moving life within it have never been a novelty to me like the way a tourist might hear it. Things like the crazy local crackhead, to the roar of the trains, to the obnoxious honks of impatient taxi drivers are not something that I ever revel in. I know all these sounds already, and they are not interesting or exciting to me, they are quite the opposite. That being said, it feels like so much more of a chore to travel anywhere in the city at this point without my Apple Music, because when I have my headphones in, I create a little personal bubble for myself. This makes for a much more relaxing, peaceful environment to the one I live in. Don’t get me wrong, I love the city, and I don’t think I could ever live a quiet, boring suburban town. But I’m constantly immersed in the loud, rough and tumble of the city, that its nice to have an hour of my day consist of a more tranquil tone.

This video is montage of small clips taken in New York City with a slower pace soundtrack in the background. Notice how the dream like music adds to the true dreaminess that is New York….
