Pleasure over Money

I would be writing about episode 4 of Ways Of Hearing by Damon Krukowski which is ‘Money’. How money correlates to music from what he discussed. From what we all know, music is one of the things that entertain people. That is when file-sharing becomes a trend, as well as using a harddrive. By using these kinds of devices, people can experience music for free all over the world. But the question is, should music becomes free permanently? I think there is no chance that music could always be free because none of the producers, managers, and companies will let that happen. Because they also spend a lot of money and time producing music(s), and they turned it into a business. Where they can make a profit and people can satisfy their wants or whatever they want to do. So it is a win-win situation. Even me is spending money on music because of how I love to listen to it and it kind of makes me happy and satisfied with what experience brings it to me. But at the end of the day, it is still different to experience things for free that will turn into genuine happiness for us all.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Smartphones

One of all the devices that make us being distracted by the things we should be doing in everyday life is the smartphones. I believe, these devices have advantages and disadvantages in our lives. In today’s generation, smartphones are very addictive, especially for teens. Most people are spending a lot of time browsing the internet to have fun and for some reason, to make them relaxed. But somehow, it also makes us lazy. I am not going to lie, it happens to me as well, all the time. For instance, in the real world, we have planned to do our homework tomorrow, yet we are tempted to using our smartphones and realizing that the plan goes to nothing, that we wasted time. Smartphones can affect the appointments we have planned and suddenly turned into lying in bed with smartphones in our hands.

On the other side, smartphones are pretty much useful, it can make things easier for us to perform and saves us time as well. We can navigate places we want to go even though we do not know how to. We can communicate with other people that are far in our place. Also, it is our source of entertainment when in doubt or when we are stressed. That is how a smartphone can affect our lifestyle.

The Upside Down

a lot meaning puts in the photograph

The USA. Brooklyn, New York. September 11, 2001. Young people relax during their lunch break along the East River while a huge plume of smoke rises from Lower Manhattan after the attack on the World Trade Center.

I propose to discuss the image of 9/11 in which I see young people like what Thomas Hoepker said, they are having a good time talking to each other and they are relaxing while there was an intense event happening in the background. It seems like some people back in the day do not mind or do not even care about the situations happening in society. They only think about themselves and pretend that the attack did not happen. I mean, who would want to focus on the negative things when there is a lot more positive situation happening around you. Nice weather and a great company cannot be ruined by some attacks from anybody. That was my thought about what these young people do. I can relate this photograph on Berger’s episode 1 in which he discussed the camera, using a camera in paintings makes the meaning different. There is a lot of meaning that has been changed and words that have been added to the meaning of the painting. Because everything we see on social media is fake, what makes it legit is when we see paintings with our own eyes in reality.

How Oil Painting Contradicts To Modern Art

paintings of food represent the wealthy lifestyle of a person who owns it.

a painting that represents the wealthy lifestyle of a person.

Many works of modern art in other cultures and periods celebrated wealth and power. They used paintings of Gods, Princes, and Dynasties to illustrate the wealth and were being worshipped. Those paintings were symbolic to them, they sometimes do rituals to the paintings which they believe it was their source of strength. It pertains to what Berger discussed about oil painting because Berger stated, ” the most valuable object of all has become the oil painting” which I believe, modern art has the same way of showing how valuable paintings are. They value paintings not just as a drawing, instead, they value paintings because it appeared from history and we cannot disagree that it has the characteristics and the quality. I think the way they differ is that oil painting stays the original story or the structure of art, unlike modern art, because of today’s era, there is a lot going on to the use of technology that has the power to influence, change information, and adding up the argument that does not come from the real story of the painting.

LGBTQ LOVE OVER HATE

In my sentiment, Berger’s central point in episode #2 is to represent the differences between nakedness and nudity. Which naked is to be oneself.  And nudity is to be seen naked by the spectators. It contradicts the depiction of women at some point because it depends on the spectators’ views. They have a bunch of perceptions in which somehow the information becomes irrelevant to the real meaning of the images. I think it kind of agrees to the LGBTQ community situation because, like on what Berger’s point on nakedness, the naked person can express her or his feelings freely to the community. Furthermore, to the LGBTQ community, they dare to express themselves in public and they are proud to show people what they truly are despite those judgments by the people. It is similar to Berger’s point on nudity, you are being judged by people and still letting them to judge you but you can’t even do anything but pretend to yourself that you are truly not. While the LGBTQ community is judged by people, but despite those judgments, they are trying their hardest to earn the respect and acceptance of society.

nudity and nakedness, either of the two, you are going to be judge by other people.

do not let yourself being judge by other people

Before and Now Era of Camera

ENG 101/0845

I have encountered a message that has been conveyed by an image and it was when my history teacher back in high school teaches us information about those historians that contributed to the world using images. At some point, by using an image, there is a possibility that the meaning or appearance of an image might change because it has been seen by a lot of people and we have different kinds of perspective so we understand things differently. But if we see images and paintings in its original concept, we might realize the differences between the original and the one used by the camera. In the original piece, you can see the uniqueness of art, you can see the thickness of the material used in that art. But in terms of using a camera rather than to see it with our own eyes, the meaning of an art change because we just lost the originality of it and you will certainly see a drawing that means a lot of insights came from different kinds of perspectives of people.

For me, it fits with the idea of Berger because they mean the same perception, that you will know the real meaning of a painting if you will be able to see it with your own eyes or in reality.

I think it brought us a realization that after camera was invented and much online stuff that popped up, it changes the world and it changes how we see things in different ways, I would say social media affects our lifestyle by seeing so many advertisements everywhere that we didn’t notice we are being addicted to it. Unlike before that, there weren’t cameras, people live in a society that writes their own stories with their own experiences and not influenced by social media.
